Alpha Sigma Alpha re-aligns district structure

Alpha Sigma Alpha National Headquarters, Indianapolis – Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority announces the re-alignment of the district structure. The new geographic districts to take effect immediately after the 2010 National Convention & Leadership Conference June 30 – July 4, are as follows:

District 2: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, eastern Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, eastern New York, eastern Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont

District 3: western New York, eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, western Maryland

District 4: West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina

District 5: Michigan, southern Illinois, Indiana and western Ohio

District 6: South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas

District 7: Arizona, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah

District 8: Alaska, Idaho, northern Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming

District 9: Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska

The national council began district re-alignment deliberations in May of 2007. After numerous discussions with alumnae, collegians and volunteers and after many surveys and research, the national council decided upon the new geographic regions.

The number of collegiate and alumnae chapters per district, possibilities for future expansion, the distance of chapters to District Day sites, volunteer availability within the districts, geography and financial impact were all considered during the research phase. Feedback and suggestions from the district facilitators were an essential part of the decision-making process.

“I am enthusiastic about the re-aligned district structure and the many new opportunities for membership and chapter growth and development it can bring. I’m excited that alumnae and collegians can be more involved by attending national events such as District Day due to the re-alignment,” said Deb Dietrich, District 7 Facilitator.

The change will make each district more comparable in number of chapters allowing for improved services to members. More chapters will be geographically closer to District Day sites allowing more members to have the opportunity to attend. Twenty-four alumnae chapters and 10 collegiate chapters will move into different districts due to the re-alignment.

Additional resources regarding the structure changes can be found at www.alphasigmaalpha.org. Specific resources are:

Greetings!

D4 ROCKS!!
I recently received a membership report from HQ that as a district we are a 110% of our possible membership numbers. That is because our chapters & colony are doing a WONDERFUL job at recruiting new members and MANY of our chapters are ABOVE total!! YIPEEE!!

Elections
Elections are quickly upon us!! PLEASE have your new chapter President email me shortly after she is elected. AND do not forget to plan a terrific officer transition to go along with the new online officer transition programs created by HQ!!

Alumnae Directory by Harris
It’s that time again! Harris Directory is contacting our members to update their information so that we can have it and members can purchase their own brand new copy of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Alumnae Directory”. You likely got an email from Harris – please complete the information and encourage others to complete theirs. One question did come up – yes, collegians are getting this, too, even though it’s called the “alumnae directory”. We absolutely, positively DO want collegians to participate, so please encourage away!! Please inform your chapter members that YES they are to complete the information!! Harris is also asking for APPROPRIATE pictures to include in the publication!!

Graduating seniors
Remind your chapter secretaries today to report graduating seniors. They received an email from HQ on Monday as to how to report this!

Songs
HQ has uploaded wav (sound) files to the Officer Portal document library (under Music and Media) of the Hymn, Grace Before Meat and the Initiation Song. There are two files per song – one with actual singing and one with just the instrumental. Written lyrics can be found in the Ritual book.

Leadership Consultants
LC applications are being accepted right now for women interested in traveling for ASA either after the holidays or next school year. If you or anyone in your chapter might be interested please check out the information on the National website.

District Day 2010
Don’t forget – February 26 & 27 in Charlottesville, VA!!

Happy Founders’ Day (a bit early)
May you all enjoy your Founders’ Day. As you reflect on another year for Alpha Sigma Alpha, remember these words from the Service for Founders’ Day:

As I have given myself throughout my lifetime membership, I have deepened my love and faith in the basic tenets of our organization. My crown symbolizes leadership attained; its gold, like the sun, denotes growth in wisdom and fruitfulness. May I be kind and wise as the legendary King Asa, whose trusted friend and advisor was the beautifully radiant phoenix – a source of light and power, a creator and revealer of beauty and a dispeller of darkness and doubt. May I positively influence and guide those entrusted to my care, remembering these words: He is indeed wise who does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.

Mizpah –
Julie
